What a day!!!!

I finished off the aviary and searched for branches etc - got them all into place by lunchtime and then all that was needed was to add the birds!

Bob of course had to be first - here he is sitting at the open door checking it all out! All food and water were in the new cage - including all special bits of food!
The two cages together - the new one looks more like the pent house of bird cages compared to his old one. But..... never the less he wouldn't get into it. I tried every thing. He fell in one go and jumped straight back into the old one - I bribed him with vegemite toast while he was on my arm and got him in and he jumped straight back into the old one again.

After 7 and a half hours of patiently trying EVERYTHING - I even put the calendar up with galahs on it on the other side of the cage....... as well as all sorts of nice treats. I tried scaring him, coaxing him and finally it got dark and he is back on the front verandah where he started!
I guess I try again tomorrow!

Saturday 27 February

I worked all day from 8.30am - I have blisters and cuts all over my hands and have decided tools were not made for women- they are all for man sized hands!!!

P.S. not much more to go on the Aviary -only a little bit on the door and then to level it all - tighten some screws and add BOB!

Imagining the finished product!

To start with that is NOT a driveway but a small path!

The bits of wood running down the side of the pathway are rocks (you need to use your imagination well!) To the left of the rocks is NOT a driveway that is all wood chip with nice pots and flowers and then if you really want to stretch your imagination add some lush green grass, a small water feature behind the white chair, a small covered deck with a table and chairs and that little stick pocking up in the grass MAY be a small evergreen shady tree!!!! Depends how shady the deck is I guess!
First I have to finish the aviary and get BOB in it! Maybe this weekend!!???

Feel like I have worked all day and not really got far - I have sore hands and lots of little cuts - but have made a little bit of progress on the aviary, so I guess it was a good day. I took a break and searched the backyard for a photo and was lucky enough to get this one!

We have 3 different types of mushrooms popping up in the newly laid gardens at work after all the rain. These little ones were the prettiest - they look like they are from a fairy garden!!! You can almost hear Tinkerbell - pity I went back into work covered in dirt and smelling like mud and the dog stuff that I knelt in! Lucky the photo worked!!!!

Wednesday 17 February

I went to the opening of a friend's ceramics exhibition tonight at ANU. These are from his Spring Creek Series. The colours were lovely. He uses clay from the dam on his parent's property, mixed with river stones and red gum ash and eucalypt ash. He built a mud kiln and had it fired up over the xmas break but it washed away with all the rain we had the other day. I got home just in time for this spectacular sunset so I had to add it in too.

I got to babysit tonight and have dinner with the kids while Chris worked late. We had a lot of fun - well I did - mind you the kids did seem to be everywhere at the same time!!

Starting work on the aviary - very exciting - I was out starting the sanding at 6.30am before work and then back sanding after dinner. Lots to do to get it Bob proof before he can go into his new home.

ok - now WHAT IS THIS????

This was in my loungeroom on the wall - it's body was hardish and I thought it was all fluff around it but they are all legs - jointed like a spider and it ran fast like a spider - I have never seen anything like it!! It was about 4inches or a little more long -(which is about 10cm) that was the body not those HUGE legs!! AND NO I didn't catch it to show anyone I was on a ladder taking this pic and like I said it ran fast and I wanted to know EXACTLY where it was so the Vacuum caught it! - the head is actually at the top of the pic - it has what looks like false eyes at the back of it!

I finally caught one!!!!

The small print............... this is actually my friend Karen's husband, Dave, putting together the bird aviary they gave me - Bob will have a ball and so will the cockatiels! I now have plans to do heaps in the back yard!!!! My project for 2010????
