Monday 22 March

Mark didn't have such a good day today. He wasn't able to get out of bed as they checked and redressed his arm and he was in a lot of pain. The doctor's are pleased as the graft has taken well.
He took photos with his phone and wanted me to take these.

None of us had realised until today what was under all the bandages - this cut at the top of his arm goes all the way to his palm. The skin graft was where they opened his arm to release the pressure on his nerves. It was open for a week with a vaccuum pump inside it.
The dressing to the front of picture was stapled to his arm - today they removed 43 staples from his graft and he had to be given a lot of pain medication before they did it but it still knocked him about for the whole day. The skin for the graft has been taken from the front of his good leg and won't be opened to be redressed for another 3 days.
This is the otherside of his arm. He still has no movement at all in his wrist and only a tiny bit in his fingers but only when the spint is on. The doctor's are confident that they have saved the nerves but he may not regain any movement for up to 12 months.

Wednesday 17 March

For the very first time the physios got Mark up and he asked to go into a wheel chair. He could only stay in it for half an hour but was so happy. I took him for a spin around the ward so he could get his barings a bit. He has no plaster because all the metal has fixed all his breaks except now he has a lot of mending to do. He has a half cast on his forearm to protect the skin graft and his wrist. He can now wiggle his fingers a little and slightly move his leg - though it is all very painful he is incredibly brave and positive. He has a lot of work ahead of him.

Tuesday 16 March

this is how far away we have to park the car from the hospital - it doesn't look as far away as it really is!! I run all the way up to the hospital every morning and hate leaving every evening.

Monday 14 march

Mark has just come back to the ward after his 3rd operation. This time he has come through with flying colours - no ICU!!! YAY! - alert and talking a bit. His school principal had been to the ward while he was in theatre and left this card. Mark wanted to read it straight away. It is from lots of teachers and some of his mates. It is wonderful to see him a little better.

Sunday 13 March

Mark with the Ambo who saved his life - Glen - one of the many people who saved him. I don't know how to thank them enough, each one of them is absolutely amazing.

Saturday 12 March

Mark is finally out of ICU this evening and in a ward waiting for his 3rd operation. This is his bone surgeon!!!??!

Friday March 12

The P.M.'s car waiting for him outside the emergency centre. Mark is in the building above the ambulance. Kev talked to me and asked about Mark and gave me a big hug and told me to tell Mark he is thinking of him. And Yes........ I burst out crying!!!

Thursday 11 March

Stewie showing his bruises - he spent the day with us at ICU.

Wednesday 10 March

Together for Mark.

Balloons on the way to the hospital - I was stopped at traffic lights!

Tuesday 9 March

I spotted this hanging in the hospital gift shop along with all the pretty new borrn baby mobiles and windchimes and teddy bears!!!!
I loved it but thought it was a rather unfortunate place to be selling it. I guess if you were visiting someone in hospital you didn't like it would make a good gift?????

My beautiful baby - an absolutely amazing boy - after 7 hours surgery......
We took these to show him when he is all better and able to see them if he ever wants to.
One second and so much has changed.

Tuesday 2 March

Autumn is here!

Monday 1 March

It was Lucy's 9th bithday and Mark and I had a lovely dinner at Rebecca and Chris' to celebrate her birthday

I took the day off work to sit with Bob - and he finally got into his cage - it was another very patient 4 hours and I ended up enticing him in with some vegemite toast - he is a true Aussie Galah! He is also 21 this year so instead of the key to the house he got the house for his 21st!
